Hi everyone,
Quick refresher: this quarter’s theme is Momentum.
In the last note, we explored how momentum isn’t just about moving faster—it’s about moving on purpose.
Over the next three notes, we’ll break momentum into a simple formula with three elements: Mass, Velocity, and Resistance.
Today, we begin with Mass.
::Your 5 Minutes Starts Now::
Part 1: What We Mean By Mass
In physics, Mass measures how much matter exists.
In leadership and growth, Mass is the measure of:
🔧 the skills you’ve accumulated,
📖 the knowledge you’ve gained through lived experience, and
🌍 the network of people who surround you.
Together, these form the foundation of your momentum.
Let’s break each one down a level further.
Part 2: Skills—Honing Your Craft
Skills are the abilities you have cultivated to deliver on your value proposition—and to consistently deliver on what you’ve promised.
They let others recognize you as someone who has invested time to build mastery in your field.
And mastery creates trust—trust in your leadership, trust in your work, and trust in the value you bring.
I’ve realized over the years that the leaders and founders who resonate most with PurposeBuilt are the ones who already carry deep mastery in their own domain.
They know what it takes to commit to a craft.
They can sense that same quality in others.
And when they reach the edge of their own knowledge base,
they’re quick to recognize it—
and just as quick to seek out others whose skills will help them grow further.
That’s the power of skills: they’re a signal that you’ve put in the work,
can be relied on, and can help someone else grow.
And in leadership, that signal is what earns trust—and opens the door for others to follow your vision.
A Real-time Example
If you’ve been reading for a while, you know that I am pretty intentional with the timing and flow of these Sunday notes.
Today, I experienced some unexpected universal timing as I wrote this one.
Over the past two days, I’ve watched Alex Hormozi launch his third book—$100M Money Models.
If you don’t know him, Alex is a business builder who has made a practice of sharing what he’s learned—openly, generously, and with the intent to help others level up their craft.
His two-day launch even set a Guinness World Record for pre-orders of a nonfiction book. 📚🚀
To me, it’s a reminder of what happens when someone takes their skills, packages them clearly, and gives them away in service of others’ growth.
And in the spirit of elevating skill-building, I decided on a whim today to pay it forward. 💌
If you’d like a copy of his new book, just let me know.
I purchased 15 copies to share with our community.
We can read it together and keep growing our respective skillsets. 😊
Part 3: Knowledge—the Wisdom of Lived Experience
Skills can be taught. Knowledge is lived.
Where skills give you the ability to do something, knowledge gives you the wisdom to know whether it should be done at all.
That kind of wisdom is learned through trial and error:
launches that fall flat,
experiments that surprise you,
lessons that keep repeating until you finally listen.
Knowledge is the quiet gift of experience
that teaches you to test, to iterate, and to refine.
Over time, you begin to see not just what you can do—but what you need more of, less of, or none of at all in your life and leadership.
Knowledge is what allows you to pause before taking action.
It helps you recognize the difference between possibility and priority.
It’s what helps us lead with discernment, not just execution.
Part 4: Network—the People Who Shape Your Future
There’s a saying: if you want to know your future, look at the people closest to you.
Your network isn’t just about professional connections.
It’s the living system of trust, resonance, and belonging that surrounds you.
In Tribe: On Homecoming & Belonging, Sebastian Junger explains:
“The earliest and most basic definition of community—of tribe—would be the group of people that you would both help feed and help defend.”
These are the people whose lives you invest in—and who invest in yours.
Network is also powerful because your progress can multiply exponentially when you’re close to the right people.
As Dr. Ben Hardy writes in The Science of Scaling, the most exponential pathways emerge from highly leveraged people—what he calls your “SuperWho’s”.
In other words, cultivating deeply meaningful relationships shapes your direction, supports your growth and accelerates your momentum.
If you’re reading this, you are part of that circle.
You’ve already said yes to the work of consciousness
and to building businesses that create real impact.
Your continued commitment matters. And I’m deeply grateful for it. 🙏🏻
Part 5: Putting It Together
Mass grows when you:
Hone your skills with care,
Reflect on your knowledge with honesty, and
Invest in your network with intention.
Try this exercise:
Take out a notebook and make three columns—Skills, Knowledge, Network.
Under Skills, list 3 you are actively developing and 3 things you are better at than anyone else you know.
Under Knowledge, write 3 lessons life has already taught you (the ones that kept repeating until you truly learned them).
Under Network, name 3 people who are shaping your growth right now.
Then ask yourself:
Who might be a “SuperWho” for me right now—someone whose presence could multiply my momentum?
This exploration becomes a cheatsheet for your Mass—the foundation you have to build from and the elements you still need to cultivate.
Part 6: What’s Next
Next up: Velocity—how much focused energy you can bring to the impact you want to make.
See you then. ❤️
P.S. If digging into your pricing model would be useful, shoot me a note and I’ll send you a link to a free copy of Alex Hormozi’s new book.
Consider it my thank-you for being here through 20 newsletters—a small celebration of the community we’re building together. 😊
